The Ministry of Livestock of the Jubbaland State of Somalia, with support from the Somalia Food Systems Resilience Project (S-FSRP) funded by the World Bank, has conducted a training workshop on the Integrated Pest Management Plan (IPMP) aimed at enhancing agricultural productivity, food security, and environmental protection.

The training was officially inaugurated by the Director General of the Ministry, Abdullahi Ali Farah, who highlighted the vital role of the initiative in strengthening food security, boosting agricultural production, and safeguarding the environment across Jubbaland.

In his opening remarks, the DG underscored the importance of raising public awareness about effective and sustainable approaches to managing plant pests and diseases.

He noted that educating communities, particularly the people of Jubbaland, on proper pest and disease control methods is essential for minimizing their impact while protecting human health, livestock, and natural ecosystems.

The workshop brought together ministry staff, members of local communities, representatives of project-supporting partners, key stakeholders, and officials from institutions involved in the implementation of the project.

During the sessions, participants discussed the critical role of community engagement in project implementation, the significance of the Integrated Pest Management Plan (IPMP), and strategies for strengthening collaboration among all stakeholders to achieve the project’s objectives.

Discussions also focused on promoting sustainable agricultural practices and building resilience within Somalia’s food systems.

The training forms part of ongoing efforts under the Somalia Food Systems Resilience Project (S-FSRP) to support sustainable agricultural development and enhance the capacity of communities to address challenges posed by pests and plant diseases, contributing to long-term food security and economic growth in Jubbaland and Somalia at large.
