The Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism of the Jubaland State Government, Abdifatah Mohamed Mukhtar, today inaugurated a four-day training workshop in Kismayo aimed at strengthening the role of the media in conflict prevention, de-escalation of tensions, and peacebuilding.
The opening ceremony was attended by the Minister of Security, Gen. Dhuumaal, the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, the Director General of the Ministry of Interior, as well as representatives from BBC Media Action and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
The training has brought together 20 journalists from across Jubaland, including participants from the Gedo region, to enhance their professional capacity in conflict-sensitive journalism and responsible reporting.
The workshop focuses on strengthening journalists’ skills in reporting on conflict-related issues, maintaining impartiality, verifying information, and upholding media ethics. The initiative is designed to equip media practitioners with the tools needed to contribute positively to reducing tensions, preventing conflict, and promoting sustainable peace within their communities.
The training is a joint initiative of the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism of Jubaland, BBC Media Action, and UNDP, and forms part of ongoing efforts to enhance journalistic professionalism and improve the quality of media reporting across Jubaland.
