A significant chapter of reconciliation has begun in the Gedo region as the Luuq District Peace Conference officially concluded today with a historic agreement. The closing ceremony, held in Doolow, marks the end of weeks of intensive negotiations aimed at restoring harmony between brotherly communities.

The event was presided over by the First Vice President of Jubbaland, Mohamud Sayid Adan, alongside the district commissioner of Doolow, Mohamed Hussein Abdi (Lafeey).

In a moving address filled with hope and guidance, First Vice President Mohamud Sayid Adan praised the delegates for their courage to choose peace. He described stability as the “cornerstone of Jubbaland’s existence,” urging the people of Luuq to safeguard their newfound unity.

“Peace is not just the absence of conflict; it is the foundation of our future. I call upon the communities of Luuq to strengthen their brotherhood, practice mutual respect, and uphold this agreement as a sacred bond,” Jubbaland First Vice President stated.

District commissioner Mohamed Hussein Abdi (Lafeey) extended his gratitude to the traditional elders, intellectuals, and civil society members who worked tirelessly to bridge the divide. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring the long-term success of the accord.

The conference concluded in an atmosphere of brotherly warmth, serving as a powerful example of Jubbaland’s “homegrown” approach to conflict resolution—prioritizing dialogue, compromise, and mutual understanding over division.

The landmark treaty is expected to pave the way for accelerated development and social integration across the Luuq District and the wider Gedo region.
