The Ministry of Women, Family Affairs and Human Rights of the Jubaland State of Somalia convened a stakeholder consultation and coordination meeting at the Kismayo Women Development Centre (KWDC), bringing together organizations and partners working to prevent Female Genital Mutilation (FGM).
The meeting focused on strengthening collaboration among stakeholders and discussing practical measures to enforce existing regulations that prohibit harmful forms of FGM.
Participants also explored strategies to enhance public awareness and community engagement aimed at eliminating the practice and protecting the rights, health, and dignity of women and girls.
Officials emphasized the importance of coordinated action between government institutions, civil society organizations, religious leaders, and development partners to ensure effective implementation of anti-FGM policies and legislation.
The consultation forms part of Jubaland’s ongoing efforts to promote women’s rights and safeguard vulnerable groups through advocacy, awareness campaigns, and stronger legal protections against harmful traditional practices.
