The Minister of Energy and Water Resources of the Jubbaland State Government, Ahmed Hussein Baraki, accompanied by the Director General of the Jubbaland Water Agency, Mohamed Nunow, senior engineers from the ministry, and the Head of the Groundwater Project, held two high-level meetings in Nairobi aimed at fast-tracking critical water development initiatives in Jubbaland State.
In the first meeting with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), discussions focused on the Kismayo Urban Water Project. The parties explored strategies to finalize the remaining components of the project and implement a sustainable water distribution system for the city.
The second meeting, held with the World Bank, centered on strengthening the water infrastructure in Kismayo. Both sides agreed to deepen collaboration between the Jubbaland Government and the World Bank to accelerate the delivery of essential water services.
The meetings also reviewed the progress, challenges, and current status of two major ongoing projects in the region: the Barwaaqo Project and the Groundwater (Abartiir) Project. These initiatives are among the largest water development efforts currently underway in Jubbaland State.
Minister Baraki expressed his gratitude to both organizations for their continued technical support and financial investment in Jubbaland’s water sector. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving water services, strengthening infrastructure, and ensuring access to clean, reliable, and sustainable water for all communities.
