
The Ministry of Fisheries and Blue Economy of the Jubaland State Government held a high-level meeting with representatives from ACTED international organization to strengthen collaboration in advancing the livelihoods of local fishing communities.
The Jubbaland Minister of Fisheries, Ahmed Hassan Omar, accompanied by Deputy Minister, Mohamed Omar Bunu and Director General Mahmoud Abdi Ahmed, welcomed a delegation led by Ms. Anna Martyres, Head of ACTED’s Somalia Office.
The meeting focused on initiating strategic cooperation between the Ministry and ACTED, with discussions centered around enhancing support for Jubaland’s fisherfolk.
The delegation was briefed on the Ministry’s key achievements, particularly impactful projects that have created jobs and provided training opportunities for local fishers.
Minister Omar highlighted the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to uplift the fisheries sector and emphasized the potential role ACTED could play in furthering sustainable development and resource utilization.
He underscored the importance of partnerships in unlocking economic opportunities and building resilience within coastal communities.
ACTED delegation commended the Ministry’s initiatives and reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the sustainable use of marine resources, noting the significance of these efforts for the broader community.
