In a decisive move to address escalating tensions in the Gedo Region, senior officials from both the Executive and Legislative branches of the Jubbaland State Government convened today for a high-level consultative meeting.

The forum focused on urgent security, political, and humanitarian concerns affecting the region.

The meeting centered around three critical agenda items:

The resurgence of conflict and insecurity in Gedo.
The political and economic blockade imposed on Jubaland territories.
The reinforcement of Jubaland’s frontline security forces.

Participants condemned the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) for its continued unconstitutional actions, including military aggression and systemic rights violations. These actions, they argued, undermine Somalia’s federal framework and violate key provisions of the Provisional Constitution—particularly Articles 48 and 50, which mandate cooperation and mutual respect between federal entities.

The communiqué highlighted the misuse of donor-funded military resources in peaceful districts such as Raaskaambooni, Baardheere, and Beled Hawo, in direct violation of Articles 44 and 45 concerning resource allocation and territorial stability.

Further concerns were raised over the year-long suspension of civilian air transport and the political obstruction of development projects in Gedo. These measures, the leaders stated, infringe upon Article 27, which guarantees citizens access to essential services.

Key Resolutions from the Meeting Include:

Constitutional Reaffirmation: A call for the Federal Government to cease hostilities and uphold constitutional order, as enshrined in Articles 1 and 3.

Public Unity: An appeal to Jubaland citizens to stand firm in defense of their institutions and reject divisive political interference.

Support for Security Forces: Full backing for Jubaland’s disciplined forces operating under extreme conditions.

Neutrality of National Forces: A reminder to the Somali National Army to remain apolitical and adhere to Article 126, which mandates military subordination to constitutional authority.

Reopening of Civil Infrastructure: A demand for the immediate restoration of air transport and development initiatives in Gedo, protected under Article 21.

Regional Stability Warning: A caution against border interventions that could destabilize relations with neighboring countries, violating Article 7.

Appeal to International Partners: A request for global stakeholders to reassess their support to the FGS in light of aid misuse.

Warning on Political Consequences: A stark warning that continued constitutional violations could derail Somalia’s fragile state-building efforts.

The meeting concluded with a unified stance from Jubaland leadership, reaffirming their commitment to peace, federalism, and the protection of constitutional rights across the region.
