The Government of Jubbaland has extended its heartfelt condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims of today’s tragic attack in the Tarabuunka neighborhood of Mogadishu.
The area, home to thousands of Somali citizens without formal resettlement, was reportedly targeted in a violent land seizure operation allegedly orchestrated by the administration of Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.
Over the past three years, Mogadishu has witnessed a surge in forced evictions and illegal auctions of public land. Residents have been displaced from their homes without due process and proceeds from these land sales are alleged to have been funneled directly into private accounts linked to the president—bypassing legal frameworks and ignoring the urgent needs of the displaced communities.
The Jubbaland Government further accuses President Mohamud of using these funds to undermine Somalia’s federal system, citing the attack on Raaskambooni and ongoing conflicts in Beled-Hawo, Gedo region, as examples of destabilizing actions financed through illicit land deals.
In addition, the administration is accused of channeling these resources into a controversial and widely disputed electoral process, driven by personal interests rather than national consensus.
Jubbaland calls on Somali intellectuals, civil society and all segments of the population to stand against the exploitation of public land and the displacement of vulnerable citizens. The government urges collective resistance to actions that contribute to national instability and the erosion of public trust.
