Kismayo witnessed a momentous occasion today as former President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Sharif Sheikh Ahmed, accompanied by a high-level delegation, arrived in the city to a warm and enthusiastic reception at Kismayo International Airport.
Leading the welcoming ceremony was Jubbaland President Ahmed Mohamed Islam, joined by senior officials and hundreds of Kismayo residents who lined up in long queues to greet the distinguished guests.
The visit coincides with the city hosting the Somalia National Salvation Forum, scheduled to officially commence later this afternoon. The high-stakes conference aims to chart a new course for Somalia’s political future, addressing critical issues such as governance, security, and upcoming elections.
The forum brings together opposition leaders, regional presidents from Jubbaland and Puntland, former presidents and prime ministers, influential politicians, and key stakeholders—all united to deliberate on solutions for Somalia’s pressing challenges and to propose reforms for the current political framework.
Participants are expected to issue resolutions and a communiqué outlining a unified vision for Somalia’s political trajectory, the role of the opposition, and strategies to overcome obstacles hindering state-building efforts.
As the conference unfolds, Kismayo will host an influx of high-profile delegations under tight security measures, ensuring the safety of attendees and the smooth progress of this pivotal national dialogue.
