The Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management of the Jubaland State of Somalia has convened an extraordinary meeting to discuss preparedness and response measures for the forecasted Deyr season flooding expected to affect parts of the region.
During the meeting, the Ministry presented an assessment of areas considered most vulnerable to potential flooding and water-related impacts.
The session also provided an opportunity to share contingency plans with key partners, including government ministries and humanitarian agencies, outlining coordinated response mechanisms in the event of flooding.
The meeting was chaired by the Director General of the Ministry, Bahay Haji, who emphasized the importance of early preparedness and coordinated action.
Participants agreed to immediately launch public awareness campaigns focused on early warning messages and to keep communities informed of any emerging developments.
According to recent weather forecasts, the anticipated El Niño conditions could result in heavy rainfall and flooding across several parts of Jubaland, particularly in communities located along the Juba River.
Authorities have therefore urged residents to closely follow official advisories and take precautionary measures to safeguard lives, livelihoods, and property.
The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with partners and local communities to strengthen preparedness efforts and minimize the impact of any flood-related emergencies during the upcoming rainy season.
