The Head of the Gender-Based Violence Unit of the Jubbaland Police Force, Lieutenant Dahabo Ahmed Mubarak, accompanied by the Chairman of the Jubbaland Youth Council, Farhan Haji, held a consultative meeting in Kismayo with young people from across Jubbaland, particularly those with significant influence on social media platforms.
The meeting, which took place at the Kismayo Central Police Station, aimed to encourage youth to play a more active role in preventing abuse, promoting and protecting human rights, safeguarding the rights of Jubbaland citizens, and strengthening public confidence in security institutions.
During the discussions, participants shared practical recommendations with the Gender-Based Violence Unit and highlighted challenges they encounter in community awareness campaigns and efforts to combat abuse and violence. The exchange provided an important platform for dialogue and collaboration between law enforcement authorities and young community leaders.
Officials also announced that the youth will work closely with the Jubbaland Protection Team, a multi-stakeholder initiative comprising the Jubbaland Police Force, Women’s Organizations, the Youth Council, Neighborhood Chairpersons, and journalists.
The committee will operate across the seven neighborhoods of Kismayo, focusing on enhancing community security, protecting human rights, and preventing all forms of abuse.
The initiative is expected to strengthen cooperation between citizens and security institutions while empowering young people to become key partners in advancing safety, justice, and social cohesion throughout the city.
The consultative meeting underscored the vital role of youth engagement in addressing social challenges and reaffirmed the commitment of Jubbaland authorities to fostering community-led approaches to security, human rights protection, and violence prevention.
