The Ministry of Information of Jubbaland, in partnership with the United Nations Transitional Mission in Somalia (UNTMIS), has launched a comprehensive training program aimed at strengthening modern media skills among local journalists in the region.
The capacity-building initiative brings together media practitioners from across Jubbaland, equipping them with practical knowledge and tools to navigate the rapidly evolving digital media landscape.
Participants are receiving hands-on training in the effective use of modern media platforms, with a particular focus on social media management, online publishing, and digital storytelling.
The program is designed to enhance the professionalism and technical skills of journalists, enabling them to produce accurate, timely, and engaging content while adapting to the demands of digital audiences.
Jubaland Minister of Information, Abdifataah Mohamed Mukhtaar, emphasized the importance of embracing technological advancements in journalism. He shared key insights and guidance with participants, urging them to leverage modern tools to improve the quality and reach of their reporting.
“It is essential for journalists to fully utilize the internet and digital platforms at their disposal,” the minister said, highlighting the role of technology in transforming media practices.
He further encouraged attendees to make the most of the opportunity by strengthening their competencies and adopting innovative approaches to news reporting and communication.
Participants, many of whom are young media professionals, expressed strong appreciation for the initiative. They noted that the training not only broadened their understanding of modern media tools but also provided valuable skills that will enhance their day-to-day work.
Several trainees described the program as a rare and impactful opportunity, adding that it was the first of its kind to be organized for journalists in the region.
The training marks a significant step in efforts to build a more skilled and digitally proficient media sector in Jubaland, supporting journalists to better serve their communities with credible and accessible information.
