The Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Relief and Disaster Management of the Jubbaland State Government, Mohamed Osman Jama, accompanied by the Chairman of the Jubbaland Refugees and IDPs Agency (JUCRI), Ali Aden Ali, on Sunday launched a major food‑aid distribution donated by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to support drought‑affected communities in Jubbaland State.
The assistance targets 4,020 vulnerable families, with the first phase delivered to 3,020 households residing in the drought‑stricken area of Luglow, north of Kismayo.
This emergency support arrives at a time when a severe and prolonged drought continues to devastate many parts of Jubbaland State, mirroring the wider humanitarian crisis impacting communities across Somalia.
During the food distribution event, Deputy Minister Mohamed Osman Jama expressed gratitude to the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre, which implemented the initiative in partnership with the national organization Tadamun Social Society.
He urged international partners and humanitarian organizations to increase support for drought‑affected populations, noting that sustainable assistance is essential to easing the hardships faced by communities and building long‑term resilience against future disasters.
