Two members of the Al‑Shabaab militant group surrendered earlier today to Jubbaland State security forces and the Somali National Army (SNA) stationed in the Baar‑Sanguuni area.
According to security officials, one of the defectors handed over a PKM machine gun, while the other surrendered with an AK‑47 rifle.
In recent months, Al‑Shabaab fighters have reportedly continued to defect in increasing numbers, unable to withstand sustained military operations targeting the group across various regions. Joint forces from Jubbaland and the SNA have intensified pressure, pursuing militants wherever they are believed to be hiding.
Authorities say the growing rate of defections reflects the effectiveness of ongoing security operations aimed at weakening the group’s presence in the region.
