The Afmadow district drought relief committee, in collaboration with the district administration, has delivered essential food assistance to nearly one hundred vulnerable families severely affected by the ongoing drought in the region.

The beneficiaries, most of whom are pastoralist households, lost the majority of their livestock—their primary source of income and survival—due to the prolonged dry conditions gripping the area.

The food aid, donated by generous well‑wishers, is intended to ease the harsh impact of the drought on these already fragile communities.

Officials from the drought relief committee noted that a second phase of food distribution will soon commence, prioritizing the most critically affected families, especially those pushed into extreme hardship by the widespread drought conditions across the country.

The committee called on humanitarian organizations and the wider Somali public to continue strengthening support efforts for drought‑stricken communities in need.
