The Jubbaland Minister of Women, Family Affairs, and Human Rights, Marwo Cadar Ismail Juraati, today officially received the newly constructed women and girls safe space center in Istanbuul Village, located north of Kismayo.
The safe space center was established to provide women from nearby communities with vocational training and business development skills, enabling them to access employment opportunities and achieve economic independence.
Constructed under the GAASHAAN Project, funded by FCDO and implemented by CARE, the facility represents a significant investment in women’s empowerment and community development across the region.
Speaking at the event, Halima Mohamed from the CARE Jubbaland Head Office and Khadija Osman, South Central Head Office Manager, highlighted the importance of the center for women living in the Istanbuul area. They noted that the facility will contribute to improved livelihoods and expand opportunities for personal and economic advancement.
“This center is a vital step toward empowering women in Istanbuul with new opportunities and a safe space to grow,” said Halima Mohamed.
“This facility strengthens women’s access to skills and opportunities that support their personal and economic progress,” added Khadija Osman.
In her remarks, the Minister emphasized that the center was designed to strengthen women’s capacity and support broader social and economic development efforts in the northern Kismayo corridor. She acknowledged the initiative as an important milestone in empowering women and enhancing their participation in local development processes.
“This center strengthens women’s capacities and supports their active role in driving social and economic development across the northern Kismayo corridor,” said Cadar Ismail.
