The President of the Jubaland State Government, Ahmed Mohamed Islam, today presided over a special meeting of the Jubbaland Council of Ministers, convened to deliberate on several critical issues including security, the worsening drought conditions, and other priority matters affecting the region.
At the outset, the Cabinet collectively extended heartfelt gratitude to the people of Jubaland—particularly the residents of Kismayo—for the warm and dignified reception they accorded to the distinguished guests who recently attended the Somalia Future Council Conference held in Kismayo.
During the session, the ministers received a detailed briefing from the Committee for Drought Relief and Humanitarian Response, which outlined the current status of ongoing emergency assistance, the severity of the drought across various districts, and the key challenges impeding operations in some areas of Jubbaland.
The Ministry of Internal Security also presented an update on the overall security situation in the state. The report highlighted significant joint achievements by Jubbaland Security Forces, the Somali National Army, and international partners in operations carried out against extremist elements in parts of Lower Jubba region.
The Ministry of Water, Energy, and Minerals briefed the Council on the progress of the major water supply project aiming to bring clean water to Kismayo by channeling it from the Jubba River near Yoontooy. The Ministry confirmed that the project is advancing well, with impactful results expected soon to help address the city’s growing water needs.
