
The Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation for Jubaland State, Ali Aden Sokor, accompanied by the Ministry’s Director General, Mohamed Mursal Hirsi, and senior staff members, conducted a field visit today to northern Kismayo, an area home to vital farmlands that support local food production.
The purpose of the visit was to inspect, assess, and accelerate ongoing development projects aimed at transforming agricultural productivity in Jubaland. These projects focus on:
1. Boosting crop production to meet growing local demand
2. Supporting local farmers through resources and technical assistance
3. Implementing modern irrigation systems for sustainable farming
4. Strengthening food security for communities across the region
During the tour, the delegation received detailed briefings from farm managers and local farmers on the current state of the farmlands and reviewed progress on government-led initiatives, including revitalizing and expanding farmland for increased output, improving irrigation infrastructure using efficient technologies, providing farmers with tools, training, and technical services, and enhancing productivity to stimulate local economic growth
Deputy Minister Ali Aden Sokor emphasized that the visit reflects the Ministry’s ongoing commitment to agricultural development, reaffirming the government’s determination to strengthen farmer support and achieve food self-sufficiency in Jubaland.
The delegation concluded by pledging to accelerate current projects and introduce new initiatives designed to boost production capacity, aligning with Jubaland’s broader economic development and community livelihood improvement plans.
