In a decisive military operation early this morning, Jubbaland government forces launched a heavy assault on Yara, a strategically significant area that had been serving as a hideout for Al-Shabaab Khawaarij militants.
Yara is located at a critical junction connecting the towns of Dhobleey, Afmadow, Diif, and Bu’aale, making it a vital corridor for militant movement and logistics. The successful operation has disrupted this network, with government troops reportedly dismantling key infrastructure used by the group.
According to military sources, the Al-Shabaab Khawaarij had turned Yara into a base for conducting what they termed “legal proceedings” and for collecting extorted livestock from local residents under the guise of “zakat.”
This offensive is part of a broader campaign underway in Lower Jubba aimed at eliminating Al-Shabaab Khawaarij influence across the region. Jubbaland forces have vowed to continue their operations until the militants are fully cleared from all parts of the state.
