
The Ministry of Health of the Jubbaland State Government today hosted a pivotal conference in Kismayo aimed at addressing the growing concerns surrounding waste disposal pits and their impact on public health and the environment.
The high-level meeting was attended by Jubbaland’s Minister of Health, Isma’il Ahmed Garas, alongside fellow cabinet ministers, representatives from the Jubbaland Quality Control Agency, Kismayo District Administration, and various departments within the Ministry of Health.
Key topics discussed during the forum included:
The health risks posed by improperly managed waste pits, the urgent need to relocate waste disposal sites far from residential areas, continuous public awareness campaigns on environmental protection, strategic plans and procedures to reduce waste and pollution, strengthening collaboration between government institutions and civil society to achieve tangible results.
The conference concluded with a unified commitment to implement the agreed-upon resolutions. A clear work schedule was established to ensure that the proposed strategies are actionable and effective, aiming to prevent communities from reverting to unsafe waste disposal practices.
