The border between Mandera and Balad xawo was closed after violence broke out.

The Jubbaland government is currently conducting efforts and discussions to reopen the border, to facilitate movement and community life in the two border districts.

The Federal Government led by Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has been constantly imposing hard line stances on the people of Jubbaland and putting stringent restrictions on airports and the movement of people, which has particularly affected the community living in the Gedo region in the Jubbaland State.

The federal government is said to have been carrying out actions to disrupt the peaceful coexistence of the Somali people living in the border towns of Mandera and Baladxawo.
