The Directors General of the Jubbaland Ministries of Interior Security and Justice conducted an official inspection visit to Kismayo Central Prison, where they assessed the overall condition of inmates, reviewed prison operations, and evaluated the living conditions and welfare of those held at the facility.
During the visit, the officials toured various sections of the prison, carrying out a comprehensive assessment of inmate conditions, the provision of essential services, and the systems in place for inmate care, management, and security.
The inspection aimed to ensure that prison services are functioning effectively and in line with established standards.
The Commander of the Jubbaland Custodial Corps, Colonel Abdikafi, briefed the delegation on the general status of the prison, including the number of inmates, their circumstances, and the ongoing efforts by correctional officers to maintain security and ensure the effective administration of the facility.
The officials commended the work being carried out by prison authorities and emphasized the importance of maintaining professional standards in prison management, while ensuring that inmates receive appropriate care and protection in accordance with the law.
The inspection forms part of the Jubbaland Government’s broader and ongoing efforts to strengthen prison administration, uphold the rule of law, improve inmate welfare, and enhance the delivery of justice services. The government continues to place special emphasis on ensuring that correctional facilities operate in accordance with state regulations and humanitarian principles, while promoting accountability, security, and respect for human dignity.
