The Jubaland State Government has strongly condemned the violence and instability that erupted today in the city of Galkayo, accusing Somalia’s federal leadership of fueling tensions in Puntland territories.
In a press statement issued on the matter, Jubaland expressed concern over what it described as efforts by the outgoing President of the Federal Government of Somalia to incite conflict in Puntland, particularly in Galkayo, Mudug Region.
The statement described the situation as deeply unfortunate, noting that while Somali National Army forces engaged in operations against terrorist groups continue to face shortages of weapons and logistical support, military equipment is allegedly being transported to areas that are already peaceful and enjoy security and stability.
“While the national forces fighting terrorism struggle to obtain adequate arms and supplies to defend key frontlines, especially in the Hiiraan region, it is regrettable that military hardware and resources are instead being directed toward peaceful areas where law and order prevail,” the statement said.
Jubaland warned that such actions pose a serious threat to peace, stability, and social cohesion, and risk undermining the significant gains achieved in security and reconciliation efforts in Galkayo over the past decade.
The regional administration stressed that maintaining stability in Puntland and preserving the progress made through years of peacebuilding remain vital to the broader security and unity of Somalia.
Jubaland also commended the Puntland Government and its citizens for what it described as their vigilance, unity, and collective resolve in confronting attempts to destabilize the region.
“The Government of Jubaland applauds the awareness and solidarity demonstrated by the Government and people of Puntland, who have jointly stood against what it views as a harmful plan aimed at undermining Puntland’s stability and security,” the statement concluded.
The remarks come amid heightened political tensions and renewed security concerns in parts of Somalia, with regional leaders calling for restraint and the preservation of peace in areas that have experienced years of reconciliation and recovery.
