The Minister of Women, Family Affairs and Human Rights of Jubbaland, Adar Ismail Abdullahi, accompanied by the Chairperson of the Lower Jubba Women’s Association, Fatuma Adan Kateela, today officially launched the Women, Peace and Protection Joint Programme (WPP), a global initiative supported by UN Women aimed at advancing the meaningful participation of women in peace and security processes.
The programme is founded on the principles of the Women, Peace and Security Agenda, which seeks to ensure the full, safe, and effective involvement of women in peacebuilding efforts, conflict prevention and resolution, as well as decision-making at all levels.
Speaking during the launch, the officials underscored the critical role of women in promoting sustainable peace, social cohesion, and inclusive governance. The initiative is expected to create greater opportunities for women to contribute to peace and security efforts while strengthening mechanisms for their protection and leadership.
The Women, Peace and Protection Joint Programme forms part of broader national and federal member state efforts to enhance women’s leadership, protection, and participation in peacebuilding processes, reinforcing commitments to gender equality and inclusive development across Somalia.
