Hundreds of residents in Doolow district, Gedo region, staged a demonstration on Saturday to protest what they described as an airstrike targeting the residence of former Somali Prison Service Commander, General Mahad Abdirahman Aden.
The protesters alleged that the strike was carried out by the Federal Government of Somalia, using military aircraft belonging to Turkey. No independent confirmation of the claim was immediately available.
Carrying Turkish and Egyptian flags, demonstrators gathered at the district’s main square, where they were addressed by the Governor of Doolow District and other local officials.
During the protest, participants accused Turkey and Egypt of interfering in Somalia’s internal political affairs. They further claimed that the two countries were supporting a president whose constitutional mandate had expired, expressing concern over what they described as foreign involvement in the country’s domestic political processes.
The demonstration remained peaceful as residents voiced their opposition to the reported attack and called for greater respect for Somalia’s sovereignty and political independence.
Local authorities have not yet released detailed information regarding the circumstances surrounding the alleged airstrike, while the Somali Federal Government has not publicly responded to the accusations raised by the protesters.
