Jubbaland Speaker, IFAD Country Director Discuss Strengthening Agricultural and Rural Development Partnership

The Speaker of the Jubbaland Parliament, Sheikh Abdi Mohamed Abdirahman, today received, the Somalia Country Director of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), Thoodan Al-Eryani, alongside other senior officials from the organization at the Jubaland Presidential Palace in Kismayo.

The meeting was attended by Jubbaland ministers and deputy ministers from the Ministries of Livestock, Agriculture and Irrigation, as well as the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change.

Discussions focused on strengthening collaboration between the Jubbaland Government and IFAD in key development sectors.

Both sides held extensive talks on advancing agricultural and livestock production, improving food security, boosting community livelihoods, and implementing sustainable development projects aimed at enhancing the welfare of the people of Jubbaland.
Speaker Sheikh Abdi Mohamed Abdirahman underscored the importance of deepening partnerships with international development organizations to create long-term opportunities for economic growth, increase local production, and support greater economic self-reliance across Jubbaland communities.

The discussions form part of the Jubbaland Government’s broader efforts to accelerate agricultural and livestock development, strengthen productivity, and roll out impactful initiatives that directly improve the lives and livelihoods of its citizens.

The meeting reflects a shared commitment between Jubbaland and IFAD to promote sustainable rural development and foster resilient communities through enhanced investment in agriculture, food systems, and economic empowerment.
