
The General Manager of Sayid Mohamed Abdulle Hassan International Airport, Abdirahman Abshir Hirsi, and the Deputy Commander of AUSSOM Sector 2, Colonel Daniel Musau, jointly chaired a high-level meeting at Kismayo International Airport focused on enhancing preparedness, prevention, and response measures against the Ebola virus disease.
The meeting underscored the strategic importance of Kismayo International Airport as the primary gateway to Jubaland, serving a wide range of governmental institutions, humanitarian organizations, private companies, and international partners operating in and through the airport.
Participants included representatives from the Jubaland Ministry of Health and members of the airport management team, who discussed the critical need for stronger coordination and collaboration in efforts aimed at preventing, preparing for, and controlling any potential Ebola outbreak.
During the discussions, participants emphasized the importance of establishing effective mechanisms for information sharing, emergency preparedness, and coordinated public health interventions to safeguard travelers, airport personnel, and the wider community.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the stakeholders agreed to establish a Joint Technical Committee comprising representatives from the airport management, the Jubaland Ministry of Health, AUSSOM partners, the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), and other partners operating at the airport. The committee will be tasked with coordinating and monitoring Ebola prevention and response measures while strengthening cooperation among all relevant stakeholders.
The meeting concluded in a positive and collaborative atmosphere, with all parties reaffirming their commitment to enhancing joint efforts to protect public health and ensure the airport remains fully prepared to respond effectively to potential public health emergencies.
