The first Vice President of Jubbaland State and Vice President, Mahmoud Sayid Aden, on Monday officially opened a high‑level consultative meeting in the town of Doolow, Gedo region, bringing together United Nations agencies and local partners to discuss a major new development initiative for the district.
The meeting was attended by representatives from key UN agencies operating in the region, including the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), UN Women, and UNHCR, alongside local and national civil society organizations.
Vice President Mahmoud Sayid Aden was accompanied by the Minister of Fisheries and Blue Economy, members of the Jubbaland Parliament, the Deputy District Commissioner of Doolow, and heads of project coordination and agency liaison offices in the district.
Discussions centered on a newly proposed development project valued at approximately USD 20 million, planned for implementation in Doolow.
The project aims to empower women, boost local productivity, and develop critical community infrastructure, with a strong focus on sustainable and inclusive growth.
Participants also deliberated on strengthening collaboration between international organizations and local institutions to ensure the effective delivery of development programs, particularly those that support women’s livelihoods and promote the local economy.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to continued partnership and coordination between the Jubbaland government, United Nations agencies, and the local community, underscoring the importance of joint efforts in achieving long‑term, sustainable development across the region.
