The Jubaland security forces, in coordination with the Somali National Army, particularly the elite Danab commandos, have conducted extensive operations against terrorist elements across several villages and rural areas between the districts of Afmadow and Hagar in the Lower Juba region.
Security sources confirmed that a number of militants were killed during the operations, while others were captured alive. The operations are ongoing, with a primary objective of clearing and securing key supply routes linking the districts of Afmadow and Bu’aale, which are currently under militant control.
Heavy operations are also underway in Hagar district, where dense forest terrain has posed operational challenges for the advancing forces.
Commanders say the rugged environment has long been exploited by militants as hideouts and transit routes.
In the past two weeks, Jubaland authorities have significantly stepped up military pressure on terrorist groups, launching intensified and coordinated movements aimed at liberating strategic districts, most notably Bu’aale.
Officials describe the current phase as part of a broader campaign to restore security, reopen vital roads, and dismantle remaining militant strongholds in Lower Juba.
Operations are expected to continue as forces push deeper into contested areas, with security officials reaffirming their commitment to stabilizing the region and protecting civilian movement and trade routes.
