Jubbaland State security forces, supported by the elite Danab Commandos, are continuing widespread operations targeting Al-Shabaab Khawaarij militants hiding in remote areas surrounding Kudhaa.
According to security officials, the latest overnight operations resulted in the discovery of 24 militant bodies, following fierce engagements in the dense bushlands outside the town. Additionally, two wounded fighters were captured alive, after being found hiding in the thickets of the Kudhaa outskirts.
In a separate dawn operation this morning, the forces carried out another precision strike in the same vicinity, killing four fleeing militants who had earlier escaped from previous clashes and attempted to regroup in the nearby forests.
Meanwhile, security agencies confirmed that the joint forces are still pursuing notorious militant leader Fuad Shangole, who is believed to be suffering from a serious head injury sustained during earlier confrontations. Shangole has long been accused of orchestrating deadly attacks and inflicting widespread harm on Somali civilians, and authorities say the manhunt to capture him is intensifying.
These back‑to‑back operations form part of the government’s ongoing efforts to restore stability in the region and eliminate the remaining pockets of Al-Shabaab Khawaarij fighters who have been hiding in remote rural areas after suffering significant losses around Kudhaa.
