More than 450 families have fled Hagar town in Lower Juba following escalating insecurity caused by militant activities and worsening drought conditions. The displaced families arrived today in Afmadow district, also located in Lower Juba.

The number of displaced people continues to rise as new families pour into displacement camps in northern Afmadow. Most of the arrivals are women, children, and the elderly, many of whom are visibly weak and suffering from severe hunger, thirst, and fatigue due to the difficult journey and harsh conditions.

The Mayor of Afmadow district stated that he has taken personal responsibility for receiving and supporting the displaced families. He noted that the district administration has already arranged temporary shelter and is delivering emergency assistance, including food, water, and essential supplies, while awaiting larger-scale humanitarian support.

These vulnerable families have been heavily affected by the widespread drought across Somalia, compounded by continuous intimidation and violence from armed groups targeting rural communities.

The newly arrived families appealed to the Afmadow district administration, regional authorities, and humanitarian organizations to urgently provide life-saving aid to address their immediate needs.
