The Ministry of Health and Social Care of the Jubaland State Government commemorated the World Polio Day, an annual global event dedicated to raising awareness and strengthening efforts to eradicate polio.
The event brought together key stakeholders including the Jubbaland Minister of Health, Ismail Ahmed Garas, Member of Parliament Shire Mohamed Abdi (Chair of the Parliamentary Committee on Social Affairs), departmental directors from the ministry, representatives from the Jubbaland Medical Association and officials from partner health organizations.
During the gathering, speakers emphasized the critical importance of intensifying the fight against polio, a disease that continues to pose a serious threat to young children. The discussions focused on the urgent need to strengthen outreach and vaccination efforts, especially in remote and underserved communities.
Minister Ismail Ahmed Garas reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to eradicating polio, highlighting the importance of reaching every child under the age of five, particularly those living in hard-to-reach areas. He stressed that the ministry is deploying robust strategies and resources to ensure no child is left behind in the fight against this preventable disease.
