In a sweeping 10-day military operation, joint forces from Jubbaland and the Somali National Army (SNA) have successfully cleared several strategic areas in Lower Juba of Al-Shabaab militants. The operation targeted multiple locations under Jamaame District, including Sanguuni, Muusa Xaaji, Araare, Koban, and Bangeeni, where militants had been hiding and destabilizing local communities.
Led by Acting Police Commander and Head of the Lower Juba Police Division, Colonel Sadiiq Mahmoud Dhogor, alongside Colonel Nuur Mahad Hassan, Commander of the SNA’s 43rd Division, the forces dismantled militant bases and restored security to numerous villages along the Jubba River.
Security sweeps also extended to the opposite bank of the river, covering Jiibey, Malaaley, Janaale Jaay, and Soo Mareey. During the operation, several Al-Shabaab members were killed, others wounded, and numerous improvised explosive devices (IEDs) intended to harm civilians were safely defused.
In addition to neutralizing threats, the forces reopened key roads previously blocked by flooding and established new military outposts to support ongoing security efforts. Troops advanced into new territories previously held by the militants, further weakening their grip on the region.
The operation saw coordinated participation from Jubaland forces, the Somali National Army, and the elite Danab commandos. International partners, including AFRICOM, provided critical air support, conducting targeted airstrikes against high-ranking Al-Shabaab operatives.
This joint offensive marks a significant step toward stabilizing Lower Juba and disrupting militant operations in southern Somalia.
