The Ministry of Finance and Economic Development of the Jubbaland State today held a public awareness forum aimed at encouraging informal business owners to transition into the formal economy. The initiative seeks to boost revenue collection and enhance the quality and sustainability of local businesses.
The event brought together key government officials including the Director General of the Ministry of Finance, the Director of the Revenue Department, and the Head of the Somalia Economic Recovery Project (SERP), Mohamed Nur Salah. Also in attendance were youth representatives, traditional elders, and members of the business community.
The campaign focused on the importance of tax compliance and the role of taxation in improving public services and business infrastructure. Speakers emphasized that paying taxes is a civic duty and a cornerstone of national development.
Mohamed Nur Salah, Head of SERP, outlined the project’s goals, highlighting efforts to strengthen revenue systems and support small businesses in accessing formal economic opportunities.
Zakariye Abdi Ali, Director of the Revenue Department, expressed gratitude to the people of Jubbaland for their growing awareness and commitment to tax compliance.
In his closing remarks, the Director General of the Ministry reaffirmed the government’s dedication to continuing public engagement and expanding programs that enhance domestic revenue and promote economic growth.
