The Ministry of Women, Family Affairs, and Human Rights of the Jubbaland State Government has successfully concluded a transformative four-month vocational training program, empowering 150 women in Kismayo with practical hands-on skills in tie-and-dye, hairdressing, henna decoration, and basic numeracy.
The initiative aimed to boost women’s economic independence and strengthen their role in community development.
At a vibrant graduation ceremony held in Kismayo, the women were awarded certificates of completion in their respective fields. The event drew high-level attendance, including ministers from the Ministries of Education, Energy and Water Resources, senior management from CARE International, members of parliament, women leaders, and other distinguished guests.
<span;>> “This training has opened a new chapter in our lives,” said Asha Mohamed, one of the graduates. “With these skills, I can now support my family and even train other women in my neighborhood.”
The program was made possible through the close collaboration between the Jubbaland line Ministry of Women, Family Affairs and Human Rights and CARE International, with generous support from its donors.
Graduates expressed heartfelt appreciation for the opportunity and pledged to use their newly gained skills to uplift their families and communities.
<span;>> “We are not just celebrating certificates today, we are celebrating the power of women to transform society,” said Fadumo Aadan Kateela, a women’s leader from Lower Juba Region.
<span;>> “These women are now equipped to be agents of change,” added **Fadumo Mohamed Abdi, from Kismayo District.
The Chairperson of the Jubbaland Parliamentary Committee on Social Affairs, Shire Abdi Mohamed praised the Ministry’s commitment to women’s empowerment:
<span;>> “This initiative is a cornerstone for sustainable development. Empowering women means empowering entire communities.”
Jubbaland Minister of Education, Culture, and Higher Learning, Abdinasir Seraar Maax, highlighted the broader impact of the program:
<span;>> “Vocational training like this is key to addressing unemployment and livelihood challenges. These women are now part of the solution.”
On her parr, the Jubbaland Minister for Women, Family Affairs and Human Rights, Cadar Abdullahi Ismail, who officially closed the ceremony, detailed the stages of the training and the progress made by participants:
<span;>> “This program is part of our broader strategy to promote self-reliance and economic resilience among women across Jubbaland. The success of these graduates is a testament to what we can achieve through partnership and vision.”
This initiative marks a significant milestone in Jubbaland’s ongoing efforts to uplift women and integrate them into the socio-economic fabric of the region.
In addition, CARE International supported the initiative through a complementary four-month life-skills training program and the establishment of Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs) to strengthen financial resilience and promote sustainable livelihoods.
