The Deputy Executive Director of the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), Carl Skau, arrived in Dolow district for an official visit on Tuesday aimed at assessing a range of development and humanitarian projects implemented by the agency across the area.
During the visit, Skau and his delegation toured several agricultural initiatives that form part of WFP’s broader efforts to strengthen local food production, improve livelihoods for host communities, and support internally displaced people living in the district.
The WFP delegation was warmly received at Dolow Airport by the Deputy Commissioner of Dolow District, the Deputy Commander of the Jubbaland Darawiish Forces in Gedo Region, the Chairperson of Geedweyne, the Head of Projects and Agency Coordination in Dolow, the Manager of Dolow Airport, and the Chairperson of the Dolow Women’s Association.
The visit underscores WFP’s continued commitment to enhancing community resilience, promoting local agricultural production, and advancing self-reliance among communities across the Gedo region.
Officials said the agricultural projects are designed to help vulnerable families boost productivity, strengthen food security, and create sustainable economic opportunities for both residents and displaced populations.
WFP remains one of the leading humanitarian organizations supporting communities in Somalia through food assistance, livelihood development, and resilience-building programmes aimed at reducing dependence on aid and fostering long-term recovery.
