The President of the Jubaland State of Somalia, Ahmed Mohamed Islam, welcomed a high-level United States delegation to Kismayo led by Congressman Ronny Jackson and comprising 11 Members of the U.S. Congress, the Acting U.S. Ambassador to Somalia, Justin Davis, and other senior officials.
The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation in the fight against terrorism, as well as continued U.S. support for security sector development, institution-building, and other key priorities essential to the progress and stability of Jubaland.
The senior U.S. officials praised Jubaland’s longstanding commitment and sacrifices in combating terrorism over the years. They also commended the recent achievements of the Jubaland Security Forces and the Danab Special Forces operating in Jubaland, which, in collaboration with AFRICOM, have conducted successful joint operations aimed at degrading terrorist networks and enhancing regional security.
The Government of Jubaland expressed its sincere appreciation to the United States for its enduring partnership and continued support to the Somali people, particularly in the areas of security, governance, and development.
President Ahmed Mohamed Islam was joined at the meeting by MP Ahmed Abdi Kooshin, Secretary of the Defence Committee of the 11th Federal Parliament of Somalia; MP Mursal Mohamed Khalif, Chairman of the Somalia-U.S. Parliamentary Friendship Committee; and MP Abdirashid Jire Qalinle, Jubaland’s Representative to the Somalia Future Forum.
