Security forces from the Jubaland State, backed by the elite 162nd Danab Special Forces Brigade, have captured a suspected Al‑Shabaab operative during a planned operation in the Harboole area of Lower Juba region.
The suspect, identified as Adan Mohamed Adan, also known within the militant group as Adan Hashim, was apprehended during a coordinated security sweep.
Officials said the operation forms part of intensified efforts to dismantle insurgent networks operating across southern Somalia.
At the time of his arrest, the suspect was found carrying an AK‑47 rifle, authorities confirmed.
In an initial interview conducted while in custody, the detainee disclosed that he had been experiencing severe confusion and psychological strain after enduring weeks of sustained military pressure. He cited ongoing clashes and continuous airstrikes that had significantly weakened militant positions in the area.
He further revealed that his group had suffered heavy losses, with many of his colleagues either killed or wounded, leading to a breakdown in morale and coordination.
The mounting pressure ultimately left him in a disoriented state, which contributed to his capture by advancing Jubaland and Danab forces.
Security officials say the operation demonstrates the growing effectiveness of joint efforts between regional forces and Somalia’s US‑trained Danab commandos in counterterrorism operations. They added that military activities in Lower Juba will continue as part of broader plans to eliminate remaining militant elements and restore stability in the region.
The suspect remains in custody as investigations continue.
