A key workshop focused on advancing women’s priorities and building a unified platform for women in Jubbaland State entered its second day today, bringing together government officials and women leaders to discuss greater inclusion in governance and decision-making.

The workshop, organized by the Jubbaland Ministry of Interior, is aimed at enhancing coordination around women’s needs and establishing a stronger collective voice for women across the state. Participants include representatives from local government, civil society, and women’s groups from across Jubbaland.

Senior officials attended the session, including the Director of Local Governments at the Ministry of Interior, alongside the Chairperson of the Kismayo District Women’s Association and prominent women leaders from the region. Their presence underscored the importance the government is placing on promoting women’s participation and leadership.

Discussions during the workshop have focused on strengthening the role of women in good governance, while creating space for open dialogue on the specific priorities and challenges facing women.

Participants are also sharing experiences and strategies to ensure women’s voices are better represented in decision-making processes.

The forum further examined key barriers that continue to hinder women’s full participation in politics and state-building efforts.

These include structural challenges, limited access to opportunities, and gaps in institutional support.
Organizers say the workshop is a step toward empowering women, fostering unity, and shaping policies that reflect the needs and aspirations of women across Jubaland, with a long-term goal of inclusive and sustainable governance.
