The Jubbaland Military Court for Armed Forces and Serious Crimes today convened the first hearing in the case of Ibrahim Osman Laasow, who stands accused of murdering journalist Abshir Khalif Shiide, a member of the Jubbaland media community.The killing took place on March 3, 2026.
The session was presided over by the Chairman of the First Instance Court for Serious Crimes of Jubbaland. Also in attendance were the Military Prosecutor, members of the victim’s family, the defense counsel representing the accused, and the Chairman of the Jubbaland Association of Journalists (JAJ).
Brigadier General Abdullahi Ibrahim Mohamed, the court’s presiding judge, officially opened the proceedings. Military Prosecutor Ismail Abdi Ali presented the charges against the defendant, while defense lawyer Abdullahi Abdirahman Mahmoud Colombos argued on behalf of his client.
The court adjourned the first hearing session, with further proceedings scheduled for a later date.
