Jubbaland Fisheries Minister Holds Strategic Talks with WFP in Dolow district

The Minister of Fisheries and Blue Economy of the Jubbaland State Government, Ahmed Saacid, who has been on a working visit to Dolow district in Gedo region, held an important meeting with senior officials from the World Food Programme (WFP).

The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation between the Ministry and WFP, particularly in the development of the fisheries sector and the sustainable utilization of marine and river resources across the region.

The Minister emphasized the critical need to support local fishermen in order to increase production and create new employment opportunities. He noted that empowering fishing communities would play a significant role in improving livelihoods and boosting local economic growth.

He further highlighted that close collaboration with international partners is essential for advancing the Blue Economy, stressing that such partnerships can drive long-term development and resilience within coastal and river-dependent communities.

The Minister also expressed his appreciation to WFP for its support in a recently concluded project that assisted fishermen in Kismayo, describing it as a valuable contribution to the sector.

On their part, WFP officials reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the Ministry’s efforts.

They stated that the organization is ready to take part in future initiatives aimed at developing fisheries while simultaneously strengthening food security for vulnerable communities.

Both sides agreed to accelerate joint efforts to achieve sustainable development in the fisheries sector and improve the living conditions of communities that depend on it.
