The Jubaland Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA), particularly the unit overseeing the Via-Afmadow checkpoint—one of the main screening points for travelers moving between Kismayo and surrounding regions—carried out a major water distribution exercise today for vulnerable families in the western outskirts of Kismayo.
The water assistance reached several severely affected areas, including Bilicsan, Wayyaama-Geeddoow, Dabbiriq, Hadaafoow, Galool-yaryar, and Abaq-bambaale, all of which have been struggling with an acute water shortage posing serious risks to local residents.
Ahmed Abdulqadir Ali, the Security Commander at the Via-Afmadow checkpoint, who personally led the operation, assured the communities that the government—together with relevant agencies—will continue working on urgent relief efforts to support families suffering from the ongoing drought.
He emphasized that while Jubbaland’s intelligence forces remain actively engaged in a planned security operation against extremist groups, they are equally committed to fulfilling their civic duty.
“It is the responsibility of anyone with the means to support vulnerable people during such difficult times,” he said, noting that the forces are sharing part of their own supplies to assist affected households.
