Mayor of Kismayo and district commissioner, Omar Abdullahi Mohamed Farweyne, participated in a high-level summit held in Nairobi focused on the Somali Urban Resilience Project Phase II (SURP-II – Nagad), which aims to enhance urban infrastructure across Somali cities.
Organized by implementing agencies and international donors supporting the initiative, the conference spotlighted the progress of critical road development projects, particularly in Kismayo. The discussions centered on strengthening economic infrastructure and improving connectivity within urban centers.
Mayor Omar Farweyne expressed his gratitude to the donors and technical partners for their continued support, noting that the project has reached an advanced stage. He emphasized that the Kismayo Municipality remains committed to maintaining completed roads and further developing key transport routes that serve as lifelines for the city.
He concluded by highlighting the transformative impact of SURP-II on Kismayo’s neighborhoods and economy, reaffirming the municipality’s dedication to sustained development and ongoing collaboration with international partners.
