The Ministry of Health and Social Care of the Jubaland State Government commemorated Global Handwashing Day with a series of awareness events held in Kismayo, emphasizing the importance of hand hygiene in preventing disease and promoting public health.
Observed annually on October 15, Global Handwashing Day is recognized worldwide to highlight the critical role of handwashing with soap in reducing the spread of infections. This year’s theme, “Clean Hands for a Healthy Future,” resonated strongly throughout the day’s activities.
The events, organized at Ganaane School and several IDP camps across Kismayo, brought together a diverse group of participants including departmental officials from the Ministry, school teachers, and representatives from partner organizations, particularly those involved in sanitation and hygiene programs.
The primary objective of the commemoration was to raise awareness about the importance of handwashing, reduce the risks associated with hand-borne germs, and encourage sustainable hygiene practices within the community.
