The Somalia Airport Development Conference has entered its second day at Sayid Mohamed Abdulle Hassan Airport in Kismayo. The event, hosted by the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation of the Jubaland State Government, brings together aviation experts and stakeholders to discuss the advancement of airport infrastructure across Somalia.
The conference centers on improving the quality and safety standards of Somali airports in preparation for an upcoming evaluation by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). The assessment will cover key airports in Kismayo, Garowe, Bosaso, and Baidoa, focusing on security measures and service quality enhancements.
Participants also discussed capacity-building initiatives, including specialized training sessions to be conducted by experts from the Somali Civil Aviation Authority. These trainings will target various airport departments, particularly air traffic control, and will continue over the next three weeks in Kismayo.
