President Ahmed Mohamed Islam of the Jubbaland State of Somalia is currently on an official working visit to Nairobi, where he held a high-level meeting today with Binyam Reja, the World Bank’s Head of Infrastructure Projects for Eastern and Southern Africa.

Accompanying the Jubbaland President was the Director General of the Ministry of Public Works, Reconstruction and Housing of Jubbaland State, Abdikhukri Arab Omar.

The meeting focused on accelerating joint infrastructure initiatives between the Jubbaland government and the World Bank, particularly the development of key economic corridors.

Discussions centered around the construction of a 300-kilometer paved highway connecting Kismayo to Afmadow and Dhobley, aimed at boosting regional trade and economic integration in Lower Jubba.

The leaders also addressed the urgent need to rehabilitate critical infrastructure, including the collapsed Bardhere Bridge and several airstrips—most notably the Beled Hawa airstrip, which local communities have begun restoring through voluntary efforts.
