In a decisive counter-terrorism operation, Jubbaland’s Darawiish forces, in coordination with the Somali National Army and international partners, carried out heavy airstrikes over the past two days targeting Al-Shabaab hideouts in the Maqooqaha area, approximately 10 kilometers from Bulo-Xaji and 90 kilometers northwest of Kismayo.
The operation was launched in response to intelligence reports confirming that Al-Shabaab militants were regrouping in Maqooqaha and nearby Xalima-Cadey, plotting surprise attacks against the Darawiish base in Bulo-Xaji. To neutralize the threat, precision airstrikes were conducted, directly targeting key militant positions and leadership.
Military officials confirmed that the strikes resulted in significant losses for the extremist group, killing 25 militants, including five senior commanders.
Four vehicles used by the group for operations and attacks against civilians were destroyed.
This operation underscores the vigilance, capability, and unwavering commitment of Jubbaland’s security forces, the Somali National Army, and their international allies in dismantling extremist networks and restoring peace and stability for the Somali people.
