Ibraahim Nuur, also known by the alias Farhan, a former member of the Al-Shabaab militant group, has surrendered to security forces in the Afmadow district of Jubbaland State.

According to local security officials, Farhan handed over his weapon and military gear upon surrendering, signaling his complete defection from the extremist group. His decision to abandon the group reportedly stemmed from the unbearable conditions in the bush, including hunger and constant pressure from ongoing military operations by Jubbaland forces and the Somali National Army.

Security authorities in Afmadow hailed the surrender as a positive development and a clear indication of the internal collapse and growing mistrust within Al-Shabaab ranks. They reiterated the government’s commitment to welcoming defectors peacefully and offering them a chance to reintegrate into society.

“This is a significant step that reflects the weakening grip of the Khawaarij,” said one security official. “We encourage others who are still in hiding to come forward and take advantage of the government’s amnesty and rehabilitation programs”.
