US Assistant Security Secretary Dr. Liz Sherwood-Randall, AFRICOM Commander General Stephen Townsend, and Assistant Secretary of Defense for Special Operations and Lower Crisis Chris Maier has yesterday concluded a tour of Somalia, Djibouti and Kenya.
The White House said the officials’ trip was to advance the Biden administration’s anti-terrorism policy, empowering local partners to counter terrorist threats.

The officials met with US forces in Djibouti, Somalia, and Kenya who are responsible for carrying out operations against Al-Shabaab terror group, with US assistance.

“Our entire visit was to strengthen awareness of emerging threats and enhance our partnership with local partners and the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM),” A White House statement said.

The United States plans to expand its military support to the global war on terror in Africa, which is vulnerable to extremist threats.
