As the rift between the outgoing Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo and Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble continues, a second round of talks is underway to resolve their dispute over the mysterious disappearance of Ikraan Tahliil.
Last night, the Speaker of the House of the People Mohamed Mursal Sheikh Abdirahman, the President of Galmudug regional state Ahmed Abdi Kariye (Qoor Qoor) along with five ministers and two deputy ministers made an effort in the second round of talks.
The officials first met with Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo and then moved on to the Prime Minister Hussein Roble. Reports from the meetings indicate that the only point of contention is President Farmajo’s demand for embattled National Security advisor Fahad Yassin to be given a clean slate, a point that Prime Minister Roble is against.
The presidents of Galmudug and South West state, Abdi Aziz Laftagareen and Ahmed Abdi Kariye (Qoor Qoor) respectively last week initiated talks between Farmajo and Roble, but the talks flopped.
The rift between President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo and Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble has been widely felt inside the government, affecting some of the Somali government institutions.
